Nimbus 30, 30 ft fast cruising trimaran
Brief description
Nimbus30 is a 30 foot stitch and glue trimaran using 9mm marine plywood as the main shell material. She sleeps 3 in single berths and has 6 foot standing headroom in the galley and saloon. Floats cannot be retracted in the marina, but the boat can be assembled in half a day by 2 people.
Background
The design was commissioned by my elder brother Michael and the spec evolved by discussion amongst Myself, Mike and his wife Mary. They already had a good deal of cruising experience in A Telstar 26 and Typhoon 25. Also Mike completed 2004 2 handed RBR race in a very old 35 foot restoration of a Kellsall design (Triple Fantasy)

The special features of the resulting design listed below
- Dagger boards in floats not only maximises central living space by eliminating centerboard trunking but enables roll stability to be enhanced by angling the boards to give some vertical lift.
- Unusually wide transom allows side by side mounting of outboard motor and rudder eliminating vulnerable or unsightly brackets
- Flare at the stern helps carry additional people/gear with minimal sinkage and transom dragging
- Large forward facing windows for visibility and internal brightness
- Accessibility to all compartments for inspection/repair
- Simple lashing connection of crossbeams to main hull brackets
